Our Personal Leadership module aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective leaders in their personal and professional lives.Â
The key objectives of this module are:
Understanding Values-based Personal Leadership: The course starts with introducing the concept of personal leadership and its importance for achieving goals, increasing self-awareness, problem-solving, and contributing to the community. Students will also learn about community leadership examples from the present day and history.
Identifying Personal Values: Students will delve into the concept of personal values and their impact on happiness and hauora. They will learn about the role of values in decision-making, the importance of values-based leadership, and the connection between personal values and career choices.
Setting a Personal Vision with Whare Tapa Wha: The course introduces the model of Whare Tapa Wha as a way to shape a life of wellbeing. Students will learn to reflect on their lives using this model and use it to set a wellness-framed short-term and hauora framed mid-term personal vision that aligns with their values.
Goal Setting, Weekly Planning, Self-Reflection, and Time Management: This part of the course emphasises the importance of goal setting, planning, and self-reflection in personal leadership. Students will learn to map specific SMART goals to their personal vision and use different prioritisation techniques and tools to plan their week effectively. They will practice self-regulation techniques during stressful interactions and busy periods of work and understand the connection between values and actions.
By the end of this course, students will have a solid foundation in personal leadership, which they can apply to leading projects, making career choices, and contributing positively to their communities.
