Kaupapa & Project Leadership
Module objectives overview
Our Kaupapa & Project Based Leadership module focuses on developing the values-based leadership skills necessary for managing teams, projects, and organisations. The course is structured around three primary pou (pillars):
Value Alignment: Understanding the alignment of values between individuals, teams, projects, and organisations is emphasised. This alignment is linked to both personal wellbeing and successful project delivery. A key part of this section is learning to identify team values and objectives, underpinning the foundation for values-based project leadership. We use an in-house created model based on Whare Tapa Wha, in an organisational context.
Project Vision and Values-Based Planning: The role of a project vision is explored in detail, particularly in relation to team values. Students learn to assess the current state of their team, project, or organisation and how to align the project vision with team values. The course also guides students to set short-term and mid-term project visions aligned with team objectives. Students will learn to create a values-based project plan and set specific, measurable goals.
Organisational Wellbeing and Self-Reflection: The importance of organisational wellbeing in project leadership is explored, with an emphasis on the Ngā kokonga wha framework. This tool is used to assess the current state of the organisation or project and to identify areas for improvement. Regular team check-ins, self-reflection on team dynamics, and self-regulation techniques during stressful periods are taught to promote personal and team growth and development.
